District Assessment

Author's Note: I really hate the District Assessment and I never write as well as I do at other times. Anyways, here it is and I would appreciate any comments you have on it, even though I know it is bad. Enjoy (if you can)!

I wasn’t always like this. I used to have friends, a family, even a job. But when I gave up on what really mattered most, I lost all hope. Now, I stay alone, wishing each day to be over the moment it begins. There is no going back now. When you give up hope, you lose your purpose in life.

Hugh, from the short story, The Hundredth Dove, vows to serve his king whole heartedly and to do whatever the king commands of him. Each and every day, Hugh goes to catch birds for the king, but when the king asks for 100 doves Hugh comes up short. Hugh feels like he has let himself and the king down, and has failed to serve his king. This leads him to ripping off his patch on his shirt that symbolizes his dedication and service to the king. Afterwards, things are never the same for Hugh. Once Hugh has stopped serving, his whole life is turned upside down and the meaning of his life is lost.

Giving up is seen in our lives, even today. If you mess up once, get angry and give up, a whole future could be gone for you. When a soccer player misses the ball and gives up, they give up much more than they think. This person could go on to become a professional, make lots of money and have many more opportunities in life. Your whole life depends on which doors you open and what path you choose to take.

If you give up and lose hope, life will be meaningless. The Hundredth Dove shows what giving up can do. Hugh gave up and everything was lost. Don’t Life has ups and downs, and the downs aren’t the end of the world. Keep going, even when you fail, and opportunities will come up. give up, and always keep hope.
